What is IYL?

What is IYL?

IYL stands for Inflating Your Learning, and it is an effort to help today's kids’ see the online world as something more than just a form of social networking. It is the effort to enhance kids understanding of the virtual world in the fields of learning, sharing knowledge, and understanding knowledge. It is an effort to get our generation to open their awareness to and see the possibilities that the world around us offers.

The difference between learning and education

We believe education is something that you learn from others; while, learning is done by making an effort yourself. Therefore we hope that IYL will help you enhance your ability to learn by your self and learn what you find suitable.

How do we go about doing this?

IYL uses education videos from TedEd, Nova PBS, It’s OK To Be Smart, and SciFi (certified educational Youtube channels) and other resources  to enhance and build upon education from school.
Using a point acquired system, IYL tracks the process of the participants, as they complete previously set goals and objectives. With every activity certain points are assigned and can be gained. Every new activity notice contains records of points already acquired, points need to fulfill objectives. Participants also need to gain a minimum number of points to graduate from a function.
A function is a cumulative lists or objectives that runs over a period of time, and that participants sign-up for.
We also have badges which can be awarded for different efforts. Such as ingenuity, creativity, or for fulfilling a pledge. An example of a pledge is limiting your junk food intake or promising to exercise everyday.
We also use social media, Instagram, G+, Twitter, and etc to provide students with a comfortable and realistic format.
We will occasionally also hold Google Hangout session or Live YouTube session where participants can engage freely with each other.

The larger issue

IYL also aims to address a couple of common social issues.

  1. It actively pushes students to use technology at their hands to learn rather than just surfing through social media.
  2. It’s going to get participants involved and interested in his or her education.
  3. It provided a stepping stone for new hobbies.
  4. It gives participants a message that talking about learning, and interesting stuff is not a taboo socially.

Goals

  • Inspire participants to use technology even more for learning and other hobbies except for socializing
  • Encourage students to actively pursue educational interest that attract them
  • Help students realize that talking about hobbies and education and learning interest is not a social taboo
  • Get students involved in education and fun debated and conversations
  • Empower students to freely talk about what the learn and they would like to learn

How it works
  1. You sign up for a function
  2. We notify you when it begins through an email.
  3. For the duration of the function you will be sent an e-mail every day on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
  4. In this e-mail you will be told what your objectives are for the day!
  5. After you have finished your objective, you will reply according to instructions.
  6. Some objective include answering some questions so you will need to enter the answers in the reply.
  7. The next day you will receive another e-mail with new objectives and your points updated.

What is a function?
A function is a cumulative lists or objectives that runs over a period of time, and that participants sign-up for. Their are three time categories of functions: 1 week, 1 months, and 3 months.
Each function will have a certain theme, specialized badges, and activities.

A Week
- 7 Days
- Friday, Saturday, and Sunday not included

There will only be four days when participants will be asked to participate.

A Month
Average Weeks in a month - 4 weeks and 3 days
Days in a month - (4 X 7 )= 28 (+ 3) = 31 Days
(Friday, Saturday, Sunday are not included)
Weekend Days - (4 X 3 = 12) 12 days and we’ll assume that the extra 3 days are weekdays.
Weekdays in month - (31 - 12 = 19) 19 days

You will receive an activity letter 19 days in a month.

3 Months
(19 X 3) = 57 days

You will be participating for 57 days, excluding Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

Although points will vary depending on the theme of the function, here is an example:

For one month
Points total for month - (19 X 5 = 95) 95 points possible

  • More points are available through earning new badges
